New Delhi, August 7, 2026: Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, interacted with students during an Instagram "Ask Me Anything" (AMA) session ahead of the party's 'Chhatron Ki Goonj' event scheduled for August 8 in Prayagraj.
The online session focused largely on issues affecting students across the country, including rising education fees, reductions in academic seats, examination paper leaks, delays in recruitment, and unemployment among young graduates. Rahul Gandhi urged students to participate in the Prayagraj gathering, describing it as a platform to amplify concerns related to education and employment.
During the AMA, Rahul Gandhi also answered several lighter questions from participants. Asked to name his favourite Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) politician, he mentioned former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, jokingly calling him "cool" and greeting him with, "Hello, Uncle Amarinder." The remark quickly drew attention on social media.
Responding to another question about political memes, Rahul Gandhi said his favourite was one depicting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a panicked expression, which had circulated online during recent protest movements.
The 'Chhatron Ki Goonj' programme is part of the Congress party's nationwide outreach campaign focused on student and youth issues. According to party leaders, the initiative began with interactions in Kota and Dehradun and aims to build a broader movement demanding greater accountability in education, timely examinations, transparent recruitment processes, and expanded employment opportunities.
Preparations for the Prayagraj rally reportedly faced logistical challenges, including uncertainty over the venue and concerns raised by some coaching institutes. However, organisers have stated that the event has received the necessary administrative clearance and will proceed as scheduled.
Congress leaders say the campaign seeks to bring national attention to what they describe as persistent problems in India's education system, while the ruling BJP has rejected the opposition's criticism and defended its policies on education and employment.
With student-related issues continuing to feature prominently in political discourse, the Prayagraj event is expected to attract significant participation and could become another key milestone in the Congress party's youth outreach campaign.
