🔹 International Tea Day is observed on May 21
The United Nations recognised International Tea Day is observed annually on May 21 by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to raise awareness of the deep cultural and economic significance of tea around the world and promote its importance in fighting hunger and poverty. The day was adopted by United Nations on December 21, 2019. In 2021, the world is celebrating second International Tea Day.

🔹 National Anti Terrorism Day is observed on May 21
In India, the National Anti Terrorism Day is observed on May 21 to commemorate the death anniversary of former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi. The day is also observed to spread the message of peace, harmony, and humankind and to promote unity among the people. Mr Gandhi was assassinated on May 21, 1991 by a human bomb.

🔹 International Day for Biological Diversity is observed on May 22
The International Day for Biological Diversity (also known as World Biodiversity Day) is a United Nations–sanctioned international day held on May 22 every year to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues. The theme of 2021 World Biodiversity Day is “We’re part of the solution”.

🔹 Himachal govt decides to utilise services of volunteer groups, NGOs in fight against Covid
In wake of rising COVID cases in Himachal Pradesh, the state government has decided to utilise the services of volunteer groups and NGOs across the State by setting up help desks and other activities at various levels. 

🔹 Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren Launches Mobile App ‘Amrit Vahini’ for online booking of hospital beds
The Chief Minister of Jharkhand Hemant Soren has launched a website and the mobile application ‘Amrit Vahini’ (www.amritvahini.in), to enable Covid-19 patients and their relatives to book beds at Covid-19 hospitals across the state on a real-time basis. CM Hemant Soren also launched ‘Chatboat’ that will give all information related to coronavirus to the person.

🔹 DRDO develops antibody detection-based kit 'DIPCOVAN'
Defence Research and Development Organisation, DRDO has developed an antibody detection-based kit 'DIPCOVAN', the DIPAS-VDx COVID-19 IgG Antibody Microwell ELISA for sero-surveillance. The kit will be very useful for understanding COVID‐19 epidemiology and assessing an individual's previous SARS‐CoV‐2 exposure. The kit can detect both spike as well as nucleocapsid proteins of SARS-CoV-2 virus with a high sensitivity of 97 per cent and specificity of 99 per cent.

🔹 INS Rajput Decommissioned after 41 years
The Indian Navy’s first destroyer INS Rajput was decommissioned here today at Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam after serving the nation for 41 glorious years. The ship was decommissioned in a solemn and low key event due to the ongoing COVID Pandemic when the National Flag, Naval Ensign, and the Decommissioning Pennant were lowered at sunset time in the presence of Vice Admiral Ajendra Bahadur Singh, AVSM, VSM Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Naval Command, the Chief Guest for the ceremony. In recognition of the yeoman service rendered to the nation by the ship, a Special Postal Cover was released by the Chief Guest on the occasion.

🔹 Home Ministry organizes annual Conference of Relief Commissioners and Secretaries of Departments of Disaster Management
Home Ministry organized the annual Conference of Relief Commissioners and Secretaries of Departments of Disaster Management of States and Union Territories to review the status of preparedness for dealing with natural disasters that may arise during South-West Monsoon. During the meeting, the issues connected with disaster preparedness, early warning systems, disaster management on-site and off-site plans of the States and Union Territories were discussed.

🔹 CSIR-CSIO transfer UV Disinfection technology to combat SARS-CoV-2 to indigenous manufacturers
CSIR-Central Scientific Instruments Organisation has transferred the UV Disinfection technology developed by it to 28 manufacturers to combat SARS-CoV-2. The Ministry of Science & Technology has said that the product is tested for more than 99 per cent disinfection and could be used as a retrofit solution to Air Handling Units of buildings, transport vehicles and other spin off applications.

🔹 World Bank approves 600 million US Dollars for two projects in Bangladesh
The World Bank on Friday approved 600 million US Dollars for two projects in Bangladesh to help over 1.75 million poor and vulnerable people in the country. The Acting World Bank Country Director for Bangladesh and Bhutan Dandan Chen said that in Bangladesh COVID-19 has affected the livelihoods of thousands of people particularly female workers, youth and returnee migrants.

🔹 RBI increases the limit for Full-KYC PPIs to Rs 2 lakh from Rs 1 lakh
The Reserve Bank of India has increased the maximum amount outstanding in respect of full-KYC PPIs (KYC-compliant PPIs) from Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 2 lakh. Apart from this, RBI has instructed the PPI isuers to give the holders of full-KYC PPIs (KYC-compliant PPIs) interoperability latest by March 31, 2022.

🔹 Renowned musician Laxman aka Vijay Patil passes away
Renowned musician Laxman aka Vijay Patil in Ram-Laxman duo passed away in Nagpur. He was 79 years old. Ram-Laxman was a pair of Ram aka Surendra Hendre and Vijay Patil aka Laxman. Their debut film was 'Agent Vinod' for Rajshri productions.

◾️International Day to End Obstetric Fistula is observed on 23 May
Every year, United Nations’ (UN) International Day to End Obstetric Fistula is marked on 23rd May since 2013 to promote action towards treating and preventing obstetric fistula, a condition that affects many girls and women during child birth in developing countries. Theme for 2021 is “Women’s rights are human rights! End fistula now!”

◾️Uttarakhand govt announces Vatsalya Yojana for children orphaned due to Corona
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat has announced Chief Minister Vatsalya Yojana for orphaned children who have lost their parents due to Covid-19. Under the scheme, the State Government will make arrangements for their maintenance, education and training for employment up to the age of 21 years. Chief minister said that such orphaned children of the state will be given a maintenance allowance of 3000 rupees per month.

◾️Bihar Government Launches ‘HIT COVID’ App to Track Home Isolated Patients
In Bihar, Nitish Kumar Government has launched an innovative mobile application called ‘Home Isolation Tracking (HIT)’ COVID, to keep an eye on the condition of COVID-19 patients recovering at their residence. The HIT Covid App will ensure regular monitoring and tracking of those COVID-19 patients, who are in home isolation across the state.

◾️SC's E-Committee releases manual for its free e-Courts Services Mobile App
Supreme Court's E-Committee has released manual for its free e-Courts Services Mobile App in 14 languages. The app is available in English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarathi, Kannada, Khasi, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu. Law and Justice Ministry said, the app aimed to benefit Litigants, Citizens, Lawyers, Law firms, Police, Government Agencies and other institutional litigants. The mobile app and its manuals in English and other regional languages can be downloaded free of cost from the official website of the e-Committee, Supreme Court of India.

◾️INS Jalashwa arrives Visakhapatnam with COVID Relief Consignment from Brunei & Singapore
As part of ongoing COVID Relief Operation 'Samudra Setu II’ launched by the Indian Navy, INS Jalawsha embarked with 18 Cryogenic Oxygen Tanks and other critical COVID Medical Stores including 3650 Oxygen Cylinders and 39 Ventilators from Brunei and Singapore, arrived today in Visakhapatnam.

◾️UN announces release of 22.5 M US Dollars for rising humanitarian needs in Gaza
The UN’s Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Mark Lowcock announced the release of 22.5 million US Dollars towards the response to rising humanitarian needs in Gaza. The amount includes a 4.5 million Dollars' allocation from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) and up to 18 million Dollars from the Occupied Palestinian Territory Humanitarian Fund.

◾️China successfully launches new ocean observation satellite ‘Haiyang-2D’
China successfully launched a new ocean-monitoring satellite Haiyang-2D (HY-2D) into orbit on May 19, 2021, on Long March-4B rocket, from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in northwest China. The HY-2D will form a constellation with the HY-2B and HY-2C satellites to build an all-weather and round-the-clock dynamic ocean environment monitoring system of high frequency and medium and large scale to provide early warning on marine disasters.

◾️State Bank of India and HyperVerge Partner to offer AI-powered Online Account Opening amid Covid
HyperVerge, the AI product startup, has partnered with India’s largest bank, State Bank of India (SBI), with one of its flagship products, the Video Banking solution, to provide convenient digital banking services to the customers of SBI. Under the partnership, SBI customers can instantly open savings account using Video Banking process, during the pandemic, with minimal ID documents. 

◾️APEDA organizes Virtual Buyer-Seller Meet to enhance mangoes exports to South Korea
In a bid to increase mangoes exports to South Korea, Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) in collaboration with Indian embassy, Seoul and Indian Chamber of Commerce in Korea (ICCK), organised a Virtual Buyer-Seller Meet. The mangoes exported to South Korea, were treated, cleaned and shipped from the APEDA assisted and registered packhouse and vapor heat treatment facility at Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh and exported by IFFCO Kisan SEZ. In the current season, 30 Metric Tonnes of Mangoes have been exported to EU, UK, Ireland, middle east countries among several others.

Indian Olympic Association president Narinder Batra has been re-elected as president of the International Hockey Federation in a virtual presidential election

◾️Chipko Movement Leader Sunderlal Bahuguna Passes Away
Noted environmentalist and Gandhian activist, Sunderlal Bahuguna, who was the leader of the Chipko Movement, has passed away due to COVID-19 complications. He was 94. The idea of Chipko movement was given by his wife and the action was taken by him. The movement began in 1973 in Uttarakhand, (then a part of Uttar Pradesh), at the foothills of Himalayas.
